Okay. There are many Yaoi fangirls/boys on this site. I think we should have a nice little discussion on how we became fans of such an awesome genre. I'll start: Homosexuality was always something I was okay with. I didn't understand it at an early age, because I wasn't actively taught about it. Then, I started to make some friends in High School who LOVED Yaoi. At first, I was slightly confused. When I was shown Yaoi fanart, I didn't know what to think. I wasn't disgusted, but I didn't understand. Then, I started watching the BBC series "Merlin". I fell in love with it! If you haven't seen it, check it out! Anyhoo, I couldn't help but notice the relationship between Merlin and Arthur in this particular series. Over time, I realized that it would be completely adorable if they got together. Thus, the doors were open. If you wish to see a little taste of what first whetted my fangirl appetite, feast your eyes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zz2netvXW5AWell, Merlin opened the door. However, the thing that shoved me headfirst through it was Hetalia: Axis Powers! OH MY GOSH! One look at Germany and Italy, and I was gone. There was no turning back. I was a die-hard Yaoi fangirl. The monster was unleashed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9cB9dD3e-kI now have seen many Yaoi-based shows and manga. My favorites are probably Sukisyo and Loveless. And my obsession only continues to increase as time goes on. ^_^ So... How about ya'll? What started your Yaoi craze? What kept it going? What are your favorite shows that feature it? Let's talk YAOI!!!!

I got into yaoi and yuri, like I did with most of my other interests, as an enormous "%#@^ you" to my homophobic family. While the heteronormativity you see in yaoi and yuri has turned me off of both genres more recently, I do like slash that doesn't try to shove the people in the relationship into typical "male" and "female" roles -- aka, the seme/uke dynamic.

Solora ....don't poke me. I think it's obvious I like yaoi and If I have to explain why that's ridiculous.

Little, it doesn't need to be said. Look at your tektek in your signature. That sums it up.

But of course....as long as were on the subject.....
CALLIX IS HOT.
Noex is hot. But I for one hate the uke/seme thing- or rather I hate how a lot of people right it. The bottom doesn't always have to be the bottom and the top doesn't always have to be the top...
Hence why I like Callix- two dominate males. Makes for good dynamics.

I'm a die hard Noex.
Callix isn't my favorite, but picturing both of them drunk and arguing over who is in charge in the relationship makes me giggle.

Mmm, Callix. I love that ship for no better reason than no matter who tops, I still get my fix of dominant men being dominated ^_^

I think this is one of the best threads ever to be posted here See now, my yaoi fangirl-ism was different from most. It started out when my friend introduced me to all the wonderful animes/cartoons you can find online. I was around 12 at the time. I started out like most early otaku. I loved the het main ships. Like, I was one of crazy you-can-tell-they're-12 shippers on forums and youtube. That continued for about a year. For the record, my family has always been, well not exactly accepting but not exactly homophobic. So I had no issue with gays, I just couldn't understand. Then I watched Pandora Hearts... The relation between Oz and Gil just blew my mind away, like I'd never seen any male characters interact that way (Or I choose not to). Anyways, I decided from that moment on that I would ship those two, against all of my previous preaching and morals. From then on I took small steps into the life of a yaoi fangirl. I still liked my het shippings, but they didn't interest me as much as slash did. Something about the difference between the way the characters interacted, or the subtleness of it, I had no idea. But I was hooked. Now, whenever watching an anime or cartoon I would think about what guys would make better couples and such, throwing away my previous life of het shipping. *Looks at long post* Ok that's about it for my back story... I hope I watched many yaoi series, my favorite has to be Sekaiichi Hatsukoi though. And Hetalia. I love Hetalia~~~~ Cause let's face it, it's just fanservice, bits of history (I ended up being able to answer a question on an exam thanks to Hetalia), and more fanservice As far as GR is concerned I like SeX (Lol and their couple name) but I am cool with most other pairings. I have accepted that Noex will most likely always be liked better. Callix amuses me to no end, idk what it is (Probably two dominants together) but I find it amusing.

Pandora Hearts... *adds to list of things to watch*
I have three Yaoi series that stand out as being particularly awesome.
The first is Sukisyo, which is my FAVORITE Yaoi anime EVER! It's about two boys named Sora and Sunao. Sora used to be best friends with Sunao, but he lost his memory after falling out of a building and, at the beginning of the series, has no memories of his life before coming to a boarding school with Sunao as his roommate. The two have split personalities named Yoru and Ran, who are in love. I won't give too much away. What I like about it is that there was, you guessed it, PLOT mixed in with the romance. It wasn't just a bunch of making out *cough Junjo Romantica cough*. I also like that there are no girls. In my mind, there are NO GIRLS ALLOWED in Yaoi anime, except for the fangirls that support it. ^_^
I honestly thought I would hate Loveless when I first heard about it. The idea of a 20 year old being in love with a 12 year old caused my Pedo-sense to tingle. But, I started reading the manga and was hooked. The plot is dark and creative, and the romance between Ritsuka and Soubi is innocent and gentle enough to override my "Oh my god, it's a kid and an adult" mindset.
A third that you may not have heard of is Descendents of Darkness. It's about a society of Guardians of Death, which brings souls into the afterlife and protects mortals from demons. The main character, Tsuzuki, somehow manages to be puppy-dog adorable and drop-dead hot at the SAME TIME! Anyway, he has the ability to summon spirits to aid him in battle. He is partnered with a boy named Hisoka, who can read the empathy and feel the spiritual imprints of people. The villain is a sadistic, but beautiful man named Muraki, who has a very demented and twisted infatuation with Tsuzuki.
So, here are some shows to check out. ^_^ Just a heads up: These focus less on making out and more on PLOT, particularly Descendents of Darkness. If you wanna just watch straight up making out with no plot whatsoever, check out Junjo Romantica.
Oh...and never watch Papa to Kiss in the Dark. I almost watched it. Then, I found out that the pairing is a FATHER AND SON! *shudders* That's where my "OMG YAOI" meter ends... Ugh...
