You know what bothers me? What really pisses me off? Why are they throwing so much money and legislation towards this? Why not go after the websites featuring rape videos, child pornography and other clearly illegal and disgusting acts? Get your hands on those people first. It's because the big businesses are wanting to monopolize the internet- censoring what they don't like.
Piracy is bad. There I said that. <.< But honestly- this bill lost site of its intial intentions and turned from a stop piracy bill to let's censor the internet and make it easier for people to sue each other bill.

Well, the White House says "we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global internet".
Let's hope that translates to a VETO!
And I agree. Kill the porn sites. The human race can do without them!

@krue, please remember to keep it polite, with proper respect for the other side of the debate, and make sure you're only debating the SOPA and PIPA bills, not just opposing things because you don't like the President or his methods.

Oh man I hope this doesn't get through, they will just end up pushing things underground and stimulate crime. They will make things more difficult no doubt but people will just go risky illegal routes to get around it.

So true... There are many dangers involved beyond the deletion of Fanfiction (WHICH IS UNTHINKABLE!).
May I direct your attention to a law that was passed in the 1920's called the Prohibition Act. This banned the selling and consumption of alcohol in the US. As a result, underground crime and gang wars skyrocketed. People made bathtub whiskey and went to speakeasies.
What do you think limiting the internet will cause? I cringe to think about it...

Fandom could still easily continue to thrive, even if SOPA/PIPA does pass. The idea of fandom predates the internet; hell, even fanfic is older than the internet, since they sold fanzines that had fanfiction in them. But we have an advantage over that even if it does pass, and that advantage is the invention of instant messaging and email. If they ban fansites, people will just move their fandoms from public places like forums, Livejournal and Tumblr and into smaller places like chat rooms.
I don't want SOPA to pass, but if (god forbid) it does, fandom as a whole can still continue to exist and even grow.

I hope Aen ... That ya'll are right ... Cuz it aunt just fanfic.net... It's deviant art that gonna be taken down. As as a person who tryin to learn how to learn art... That s very upsetting. Fanfic's are pretty important to them fanbase's. For cryin out loud I JUST finished readin this here "mending the breach" that solora just made. And let me tell ya'll that solora did one mighty fine job. I ain't gonna lie , it's one of the smartest written fan fic's I read. Them words were written mighty fine and so was the story. And solora if u readin this... Tell y'all right now... Y'all got me hooked. I'm now one of them..."brex" fanboys... And it's BECAUSE of theses things that make Candice so damn good. So that why not too long ago I called my state reps, they were nice so imma hopein them folks do the right thing, and vote agianst them bills.
