Apparently shes about 50 according to some interview with one of the creators . . . . earthbenders seem to age slow im sensing.

Yes Lin Beifong is 50. Tenzin is 51 and they grew up together and were at one point a couple before Pema (who is 35 for the record) broke them up.

My theory is that Tenzin and Lin were together for a long time and when she got closer to 40 things started going bad. I theorize that Tenzin left her either when she turned 40 or was 39- because she couldn't have children.

Then he married Pema, who at the age of 25 gave him his first daughter (an air bender) Jinorra, and then Ikki who is 7, and then Meelo who is 5. And is now pregnant with their 4th child. So basically Tenzin got with Pema because she was young and fertile and could give him air bending kids so the air benders wouldn't die off with him.
