Imagine a world where super-computers conspire with toaster ovens to unseat mankind as the dominant species. A place where Monkeys connive, gator-men prognosticate, and Monsters unionize... Where your heart is a living nanotech colony, with billions of microscopic robots protecting you from certain death... While in exchange, your life-force fills their battery cores, giving them not only energy, but purpose, identity... Soul... Oh, yeah... And what if these same tiny atomic tools are programmed to spontaneously forge any weapon, vehicle, or object you can imagine? As a twelve-year-old boy... Youve got one hell of an imagination, and with it, youll either save the human race...
Or utterly and completely destroy it.
This is the preamble as it where to M.Rex the little known never completed Image mini series from 1999 by future Man of Action Joe Kelly that would later by retooled as Generator Rex.
Why was it never completed? FYI Independently publishing a comic book through Image isn't a weekly job its something like a 9 month wait from finishing a comic to seeing a dollar so I can only guess Mr Kelly had to make a tough call after issue 2 came out and didn't bring in what he'd hoped or he get a better offer for regular money who knows?
All we do know is that with the success of Ben 10 Man of Action was asked to create another show and the idea was resurrected and Generator Rex was born.
Much has changed between then and now. First off Rex was a blonde haired blue eyed 12 year old being raised by a tech savvy thief.
Six ( called such because hes the 6th deadliest man in the world. ) was a war weary spy in raybands with and a pack of killer monkeys.
Bob Haha was a cyborg chimp assassin that refed to himself in the 3rd person and only as " the Haha " Example " The HaHa is not amused ".
Their was no Doctor Holiday their was in stead a actress / model named Maya Moore who was always in some state of skimpy clothing ( don't judge it was the 90's all comic had jim lees esq art back then with boobies aplenty. ) After encountering Rex very briefly she spent a load of money tracking him down. Kind of sweet if not very world savvy.
White Knight was Six's partner and described my him as " a vet of the next war ". In general he looked in better shape wasn't confined to an office and had a cybernetic eye.
Over all their was theme that evolution did not stop with humans and other then that we are all in the dark due it it never being completed. See for yourself if you have a near by comic store or are an unrepentant torrent user ( bad you naughty naughty).
