Sup ya'll? For those of you who don't know, I had a post on Fanfiction that told all the different theme songs I thought up for all of the GR characters. Well, some high and mighty Stickler McNitpick came on and said that she'd report it if I didn't delete it (since it isn't an actual fic and blah, blah, blah...) So I'm reposting everything and will continue to update here! This will have the characters or pairings followed by their themes and an explanation on why I gave each person that theme. Enjoy!
PS- For these first few bits, I'm just copying and pasting from the original post.
Original Themes- Pairings
-Circe/Rex or Circex: I Won't Say I'm in Love from Disney's Hercules, Check Yes Juliet by We the Kings, Summertime by New Kids on the Block
Yeah I like Circex. I only wrote one fic for them but I really do like the pairing! Circe actually reminds me a lot of myself: Secluded, but fun loving at the same time. Wanting to love someone but scared to show it. Honestly, I fell in love with the pairing when I first saw it! GO CIRCE! Anyway, the first song can be used to relate to Circe's conflict. If she is with Van Kleiss, it's easier to deny her love for Rex. Get it? Check Yes Juliet is Rex trying to convince Circe to leave the Pack to be with him and Summertime relates to how much fun they had on the beach followed by their eventual parting. Cool, right?
-Noah/Rex or Noex: I Think We're Alone Now by Tommy James and the Shondells
Ah...the wonderful world of Yaoi... Before there was Circex, before there was Brex, there was Noex. Don't pretend it isn't awesome! If only American TV wasn't so against it... COME ON! JAPAN DOES IT! WHY CAN'T WE? Ahem...sorry... But you see where I'm coming from, right? Anyway, listen to this song. I think the words are perfect!
-Breach/Rex or Brex: New Moon by Celica Westbrook
Best. Rex pairing. Ever. Out of all the characters in this series, Breach is the BEST! So complex...so mysterious... She is awesome enough to make SIX place a second! SIX I tell you! That's pretty good! Now, as for the song, I don't CARE that it was inspired by Twilight! I just don't! The song is awesome and it is PERFECT as long as you make sure to think of Brex. Not Bella...never Bella...
-Holiday/Six or Holix: I'm Yours by The Script, The Way I Do by Marcos Hernandez
Ah...and we go to the best canon pairing in the whole series... True, there are only two canons currently but this one is still the best! Six is my FAV next to Breach and Holiday is the classic example of what the main female character should ALWAYS be like: Strong, kind, epic, sweet, etc. Perfect combo! Again, the songs don't need much explanation. Just listen and you'll get it.
-Circe/Breach or Circeach: Magnet from Vocaloids
Surprised? So am I! Normally I don't go for Yuri. Not because I don't like it, but because I just can't seem to find Yuri pairings that I like. I was sorta thinking of Gwenlie but Circeach is what really hit home! They are both amazingly complex characters and it's really easy to imagine them seeking comfort from each other and eventually falling in love. I'm actually working on a Circeach oneshot! What do you think of the pairing name I made? Nice, huh? Anyway, Magnet from Vocaloids is probably the universal Yuri song. My pal Laharls-Demon showed me this song and I think it hits home perfectly!
Original Themes- Individual
-Rex: Shut Up by Simple Plan
This song is one of my favorites! It's so energetic and carries out the message, "You'll never bring me down!" in a totally Rex-like fashion! Plus, I'm sure Rex is thinking along the lines of this song every time he gets an order from Six or even THINKS about White.
-Holiday: I Know Where I've Been from Hairspray
Okay, FREEZE! Yes I know Holiday isn't black! Moving on! I think this song fits Holiday because it tells of the struggles people have gone through but carries hope for the next day and remembrance of what led up to the present. It's a strong song that is full of spirit, just like her!
-Six: Time of Dying by Three Days Grace
Now, Six was a toughie. I wanted to find a song that captures his fighting spirit but also shows the human that hides behind his heartless facade. The combination of a cold hearted act and small soft hearted actions shows me a man who has given up hope on the world but still has a heart to feel pain and, by extension, love. Time of Dying states that Six won't perish unless it's on his own terms and with the people he cares about beside him. It can also double as a Holix song if you look at it.
-Circe: What I Wouldn't Give by Holly Brook
When I thought of Circe, this was the first song that came to mind. To me, it perfectly expresses a wish to forgive and forget all of the wrongs that were done to Circe in her life and her inability to do so. It's a cry for help and a longing to move forward and live. It's truly a beautiful song for a beautiful character.
-Van Kleiss:...Can't I just put some Pedo song and be done with it? No? Oh fine... I'll look deeper... *shudders* Okay...maybe something deep...and... Okay, the best I got is Hellfire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
Let's face it, friends. Van Kleiss is a pedo and he freaking wants Rex! But...I'll admit he's an awesome villain... So I'm doing him the honor of granting him Hellfire, my absolute favorite Disney Villain song! Like Frollo, he intends for Rex to be his or dead. Seriously! Just replace some of the terms describing Esmeralda with stuff about Rex and you'd have THE song for Kleiss! True, he acts all confident but who knows what conflicts he may be having about this little...eh...issue... Plus, the title gives me happy images of a Van Pedo roast...
-White: Savages from Pocahontas
Dude...this song was made for White! Seriously, the words of Ratliff and the settlers represent his feelings towards Evos to a T while the Indians' part is just what we (and any right thinking Evo) all think of him! I think you can tell by this point that I like Disney...heheh... But seriously! Check it!
-Noah: Disappear by The Summer Obsession
This is how I think Noah felt before he met Rex...and still probably kinda feels now. Anyone who would willingly make a deal with White has clearly given up on the world. I can sense a lot of pain under our favorite basketball playing blondie and I think Disappear is a good way to convey that.
-Breach: Angel of Darkness by Alex c. feat. Yasmin k. (I dunno, that's how their names always appear...)
I can't even begin to describe how much of a Breach song this is. You'll just have to hear it yourself. Trust me. You'll understand once you hear it! It's dark, full of spirit, hopeless, strong, sad, everything that Breach is and feels! Plus, it's beautiful like her. I fell in love with this song when I heard it and I'm sure you will too!
-Biowulf: Stray from Wolf's Rain
I nearly used Born to be Wild but it didn't seem quite right. Neither did Hungry Like the Wolf or Who Let the Dogs Out?. Then, I thought of Stray and it hit the dot perfectly! If you haven't watched Wolf's Rain, WATCH IT! It owns! And listen to the full version of Stray. You will be thinking of Biowulf once you hear those lyrics. Like the song, he is a stray at heart but keeps pushing forward till the end.
-Skalamander: Headstrong by Trapt
Skalamander strikes me as the stubborn type who won't back down no matter what the circumstances are. So, what better song for someone so headstrong than Headstrong?
-Bobo: Why Should I Worry? from Oliver and Company
Bet you thought I forgot Bobo! No way! He's too awesome! At first, I wasn't sure but then I remembered this little beauty. He's an easy going, sarcastic, ready for anything guy and this song is perfect for him!
-Nightshade: Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf
What can I say? I want everyone to have a place here. Now, Nightshade may have only been in this series for all of one minute but I believe he deserves a song of his own. What could be better for our little black jungle cat/wolf Evo than the classic Born to be Wild? (I say cat/wolf because online sources are saying he's a jungle cat...but I want him to be a wolf and he already is in my fanfic! So there!)
-Callan: Puppet by Thousand Foot Crutch
When I said everyone, I meant it! I'm even giving Callan a spot here! I decided to give him the song Puppet because...well...he's White's puppet! Simple as that! White pulls a string and Callan starts shooting stuff. Basic mechanism really.
Musical Themes- Pairings
-Circex: Tonight from West Side Story
If I was to pair any musical with GR, it would be West Side Story. It's SO PERFECT! I mean, look at the scenario: Rex and Circe are on opposite sides of a war that neither of them want. They love each other, but they are also loyal to their friends. It's the classic tragic romance that just HAS to capture the imagination. Let's just hope that the ending isn't similar... Heheheh...
-Noex: Til Him from The Producers
Ah...friendship songs turned slash... Such poetry, no? I can see these two singing this about each other. This song focuses on how Max and Leo's lives began anew when they met each other. Rex would be the hyper, energetic, ready-to-risk-all Max Bialystock, who didn't have a true friend who loved him as he was "Til Him" and Noah would be nervous, meek, timid, *cough*uke*cough* Leo Bloom, who was constantly overlooked and stepped on by those around him "Til Him". Rather perfect, no?
-Brex: Without Love from Hairspray (Seaweed and Penny's part)
Their characters would TOTALLY fit with the parts of Seaweed and Penny! I know I'm not the only one who can picture Rex saying: "I'm here to rescue the fair maiden, baby." *faints* Whoa! Fangirl moment! Listen to the lyrics, my friends. They are self-explanatory. It's just the song for two people whose love isn't necessarily accepted, but always beautiful.
-Holix: Something Good from The Sound of Music
Where do I even begin? Aside from the fact that those two could EASILY play the parts of Maria and Captain Von Trapp without even going out of character, the song just captures all of the essence of Holix. This is sung as a confession of love between two people who were obviously in love, but didn't acknowledge it for the longest time. They ponder the fact that their previous lives were nothing to brag about, but imagine that they may have done something wonderful after all to deserve each others love. My heart melts every time I hear this song, as it does when I think of Holix. ^_^
-Circeach: Defying Gravity from Wicked
Now, I still have yet to see this musical... Let me see it, good Lord, before I die... Still, I've listened to multiple songs from Wicked and I believe that Defying Gravity can serve as a song for the future. We all know that the Pack is likely to end in tragedy. I can see Circe and Breach splitting up in the near future when Circe decides to leave the Pack. (We all know it's coming). It's a song of hope and farewell and I truly believe that it would do those two justice.
-Holex: Does Your Mother Know? from Mamma Mia
Yeah, I don't ship this pairing. That's the POINT! LOL! This song was seriously made for Rex and Holiday! In this song, the woman is calmly telling the poor boy that he doesn't have a shot and that he should wait until he's older before he starts hitting on girls of her age and caliber. Sound familiar?
Musical Themes- Individual
-Rex: Run and Tell That from Hairspray
Here's another Rex/Seaweed comparison! It's a song questioning why people only judge by what they see and what the logic is behind racism and hatred.
-Holiday: I Know Where I've Been from Hairspray
Refer back to Chapter 1. I think you can tell that I like Hairspray... Heheh...
-Six: Is Anybody There? from 1776
Six would be a kick-butt John Adams! In this song, Adams expresses his undying desire to fight for American Independence but his sadness that he seems to be alone in his endeavors. This is just like how it is with Six. He feels like he is alone in his struggles, but will never give in.
-Circe: Tomorrow from Annie
When I think of my childhood, I think of this song. It's a beautiful song of hope coming from the lips of a child who has complete trust in her superiors. In the musical, she is showing her support for Roosevelt's New Deal plan. Now, I know that Van Kleiss ain't no FDR...but Circe's devotion to him and her hope that he will solve the problems of the world is rather similar to Annie. Don't you think?
-Van Kleiss: Macavity the Mystery Cat from Cats
Yeah I'm stretching it for this one... But if you replace some of the cat terms and the name with stuff having to do with Van Kleiss, you get him to a T! "When you reach the scene of crime, Macavity's not there..." "He sways his head from side to side with movements like a snake, and when you think he's half asleep, he's always wide awake!" Those are only a few!
-White: Tradition from Fiddler on the Roof
White has set ideals on how to run things. If they aren't his way, they're wrong! If they aren't traditional in his book, no deal! This song shows a deep-rooted devotion to tradition and an underlying aversion to change.
-Noah: Mr. Cellophane from Chicago
I saw this musical only recently and I LOVED it! Now, this song is the classic song for a sidekick like Noah. He's constantly being overshadowed by Rex and most people look past him so that sometimes he feels like he's invisible. At least, that's how it seems to me.
-Breach: Memory from Cats
My favorites always get the most epic songs. Like Grizzabella, Breach has gone for so long without friendly words or even the touch of a friend, that she has resorted to grieving and grasping at threads. The desperation to be accepted and the longing for the days before her downfall are expressed purely and beautifully in Memory.
Gatlocke: Keep it Gay from The Producers
Um...*snort* I think that *snicker* this is rather self-explanatory... Not only is Gatlocke OBVIOUSLY batting for that team, I can honestly picture him singing this. No joke! He could replace Carmen in this! He doesn't even need to change his outfit! He can go as he is! No script! He'll just do it! *imagines* ...BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Anime Themes- Pairings
-Circex: My Sweet Heart from Tokyo Mew Mew
Girly anime? Yeah. Over the top colorfulness and cuteness? Yeah. Theme song translation that goes PERFECTLY with the pairing? HECK YEAH! Now, don't watch the garbage 4Kids theme song from the cruddy dubbed version. The REAL theme translates with lines like "Any girl can become fearless/By knowing a special kind of magic" or "I become more and more open/As I overflow with this feeling" See what I mean? I think it goes with Circe's longing to reach out to Rex and her belief that she can become stronger because of her abilities. I dunno... It's hard to explain. Check it out for yourself and you'll see what I mean.
-Noex: Just a Survivor from Sukisho
*giggles* Sorry! It's just that Sukisho is the cutest, hottest, fangirliest, awesomest, amazingest Yaoi anime any lover of slash and shonen-ai could ever dream of seeing. Ahem, moving on before I start squealing... The theme of Sukisho depicts the pain of the main characters, Sora and Nao, and the miracle that they were able to find each other to pull through their sadness. I think it's rather fitting if you consider Rex's isolation from other people his age and Noah's clear desperation that caused him to accept the job from White. Both stem from sadness and end in happiness.
-Holix: Kimi Hana from Junjou Romantica
Okay FREEZE! Yes, I know Junjou Romantica is a Yaoi anime! (Heck it's the reference point of Yaoi fandom...) But one needs to look at the LYRICS when choosing theme songs for stuff. As lyrics go, Kimi Hana is pretty spot on with my picture of Holix. For me, this song sums up Six's inner thoughts concerning Holiday. Probably my fav line from the song is: "If you smile up at a star somewhere/Then I'm happy just looking up at the sky". Beautiful, no? Just like Holix!
-Brex: Tsuki no Curse from Loveless
Yep. That's another Yaoi anime. I can't help it! I'm a fangirl! Is it bad that pretty much all of the romantic animes I've watched are Yaoi? *hides in Yaoi fangirl corner* But this is seriously one of the most beautiful romantic openings I've ever heard. Plus, the lyrics could have been sung by Breach herself. "In a world with no words/I profess my love" This one hits home especially: "I wanted to take you far away/How far can we go/Until we reach a place/Where we can believe in love/Beyond the night/Just the two of us".
-Circeach: Shoujo Meiro de Tsukamaete from Strawberry Panic
Like how Junjou Romantica is the reference point of Yaoi, Strawberry Panic is the reference point of Yuri. I haven't seen this anime yet, but I fully intend to! Again, this song seems to go well with what Circe and Breach's relationship would be. "As my heart enters the dream/On my right I run out of time, and my left is all soreness" It just struck me how angsty most of these anime songs are... Ah well!
Anime Themes- Individual
-Rex: The opening to Ginga Nagareboshi Gin
It seems only fitting that I pair the star of the greatest Cartoon Network show of all time with the theme song to the greatest anime of all time. No, I do not exaggerate! GNG is the definition of epicness! The song is passionate and strong, showing the will of someone who is finally realizing his place in the world and is fighting a threat that is so much bigger than himself.
-Holiday: Re:member from Naruto
Ah...original Naruto...before Shippuden came along and ruined my beautiful obsession... I'm not kidding, my current obsession with GR is NOTHING compared to how crazy I used to be over Naruto! It was almost shameful! It WAS shameful! Naruto was on my mind 24/7! Ahem, that's beside the point... Re:member is probably my favorite song from the series, not only because of the tune but because of the messages. It's a reminder to stick by your friends and to never forget that which must be remembered. It's a spirited song that fits Holiday perfectly!
-Six: The opening to Ginga Densetsu Weed
GDW is the sequel series to GNG. While not quite as good as the first series, it is still rather amazing! The theme, like GNG, is a song for a fighter. However, it's more gritty, relentless, and fast-paced. I think the comparison can also double as one between Rex and Six. Probably what seals the deal for this are the lines: "Never let yourself break down, stand and fight!/Get through the unknown like your life depended on it"
-Circe: D-tecnoLife from Bleach
Bleach...another anime that went downhill as they kept going. This is the second theme, back where the series was addicting. This song involves a longing to push forward through sadness and to understand those who are most precious.
-Van Kleiss: England's Marshmallow Song from Hetalia: Axis Powers
Okay, the title to this is TOTALLY misleading! It is NOT a cutesy little campfire song! Fellow Hetalia fans know this. It is nothing more or less than a demon summoning chant. Yep. It talks about flames coming up and burning things to a crisp till there's nothing left. That can be compared to my Burn-A-Pedo phase I went through. In the background, you can hear England doing a chant to summon a being from the depths of H***. As America said, "I FEEL LIKE WE'RE SUMMONING A DEVIL OR SOMETHING!" Can anyone else imagine using this song to summon Kleiss? I can!
-Noah: Seishun Kyousoukyoku from Naruto
If you want a song that depicts Noah's feelings of guilt concerning working for White and deceiving Rex, look no further! This could have been THE theme for episode four. No kidding! "But this affair/Will crucify you/So that's why we have to say goodbye" It also expresses the wish to move past what happened and be happy again. It can also double as a great Noex song!
-Breach: Deep Forest from Avalon Code
Yeah, I know I'm stretching it by using the theme song of a game... But it's Japanese, and it's epic enough to be an anime! Seriously the best game ever made! In Breach's theme songs, I try to bring out her mysterious beauty and her secret longing for someone to reach out to her and take her by the hand. The beginning of this song, "That place I visit so often in my dreams/Tracing a map of memories, Should I keep swimming?" could be translated into her one place. It's perfect! Plus, the slow, deep melody is just what I would picture when thinking of Breach.
Biowulf: Stray from Wolf's Rain
Refer back to Chapter 1. Epic anime, epic theme, epic character. Case closed!
The Pack as a whole: The Black Four theme from Kimba the White Lion
Ah...Kimba...the first anime (as far as I know)... It deserves everyone's respect, people! Now, I watched the dub version, so I didn't see this song the first time around. Why they cut it out of the dub, I don't know. It's amazing! It plays on the more sinister and shadowy side of the Pack. "Living in the dark/We are the Black Four" "The infamous shadow of evil" Plus, its smooth jazz style is just the type of music I would expect from Van Kleiss's minions.
Disney Themes- Pairings
-Circex: I Won't Say I'm in Love from Hercules
See chapter 1 for the explanation. Also, I think that, out of all the Disney girls, Meg is the one who resembles Circe the most: She has lost her hope in the world, believes that there are few options for her, and has MAJOR attitude!
-Noex: If I Never Knew You from Pocahontas
I don't care if all of the love songs in Disney are hetero. I can improvise! This song was cut out of the original version of Pocahontas, but the staff at Disney had the good sense to put it back into the newer releases. This song can play off of the sadness Rex and Noah felt during the episode where Rex found that Noah had been hired by White. At the end of the episode, the two made up because their friendship (in fandom, love) goes beyond such pain. Yeah...I don't know if this makes any sense, but just give it a listen!
-Holix: Heaven's Light from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Now, Heaven's Light moves in on the more gentle and quiet side of Holix. Six, who has closed himself off to the world, has found an angel who has cast some light into his lonely existence. Yeah, I'm an overly sentimental sap... Plus, Hunchback is probably my favorite Disney movie of all time...and Holix is my fav GR pairing of all time... So yeah! ^_^
-Brex: A Whole New World from Aladdin
It's amazing how many of these Disney songs would be perfect for the couple if only one was to switch the girl/guy parts around... Granted, Breach kidnapping Rex and taking her to her one place isn't quite the same as a magic carpet ride around the world... But heck! I think it works!
Disney Themes- Individual
-Rex: Seize the Day from Newsies
You either love this movie or have no clue what it is. Hopefully, seeing this song here will encourage you to go on Youtube and check it out. It symbolizes how, despite having to work for Providence, Rex is trying to create a better world for himself and his fellow Evos. It shows defiance toward those who would take away the rights of those of lower class or social standing. All in all, it's a spirited song that I think suits him perfectly!
-Holiday: God Help the Outcasts from The Hunchback of Notre Dame
If you were to ask what my favorite Disney song is, I would tell you that I cannot decide. However, this particular song is a very likely candidate. It represents pure selflessness and a yearning to help those who are less fortunate. I mean, think about it: Have you seen Holiday do anything with a selfish motive? Even once? No! Everything she does is for Rex, her sister, Six, or the thousands of nameless victims who would benefit from her research. Therefore, I cannot give her any other song than this. It's a beautiful song for a beautiful character.
-Six: Make a Man Out of You from Mulan
Sorry to be so obvious but...it works pretty nicely! You gotta admit that this would be THE song to describe how Six is trying to train Rex to get better and better. Plus, it's the ultimate fighting song (by Disney standards).
-Circe: Reflection from Mulan
It's nice not being a Circe-hater. It allows me to see the AMAZING potential depths that her character can reach and has already reached. She's clearly confused about who she is, what she should do, what emotions she should allow to show, where her loyalties lie... The list goes on and on. I can honestly see her wondering exactly who is looking back at her in the mirror.
-Van Kleiss: Friends on the Other Side from The Princess and the Frog
Okay, this is the first song that I've actually changed. Now that I've seen Gatlocke, Van Kleiss seems like a cuddly teddy bear in comparison if you're looking in the Pedo department... So I decided to give him a better and more fitting song in this chapter. Friends on the Other Side is probably my forth favorite villain song after Hellfire, My Lullaby, and Be Prepared. And it fits Kleiss to a T! I mean, Abysus is as much of an "Other Side" place as you can get! Plus, the suave, persuasive, and slightly magical air that surrounds Dr. Facilier is most certainly present in our favorite clawed villain. If you haven't seen this movie, WATCH IT! Facilier is epicness...kinda like Kleiss!
-White: Savages from Pocahontas
See chapter 1. That and the song itself explain everything!
-Noah: Cool Cool from Roadside Romeo
Most of you have never heard of this movie. Probably because it's in Hindi and it's only partially by Disney... But it's a great movie! I wanted something that plays more on Noah's street smarts and "knowledge" when it comes to girls. We all remember how much of an expert he was in the prom episode, no? How he was constantly sharing his wisdom with Rex? Well, I think that Cool Cool is a great adaptation of that. Now, Rex may not be anything like Charlie Anna...but I can't help but see many similarities between Romeo and Noah. I dunno...that's just my opinion.
-Breach: It's a B-Movie from The Brave Little Toaster
It never ceases to amaze me that one of Disney's darkest animated movies is about living appliances. It just blows my mind. Well, if you want a song that describes Breach's one place, look no further. This is it. It's a weird, odd, twisted place that one has little chance of escaping from. Yeah...I decided to play more on Breach's creepy aspect in this chapter. Whaddaya think?
-Bobo: Why Should I Worry? from Oliver and Company
See Chapter 1. I think it's perfect!
-The Providence Agents: The Soldiers of the Old Home Guard from Bedknobs and Broomsticks
I...really don't see how I can explain this. It's basically a perfect military song for a group of people simply trying to protect their home.
-The Pack: The World Will Know from Newsies
People tend to look at Van Kleiss's rep as a Pedo and the Pack's rep as a group of villains, letting that blind them to what they really are: a resistance force. From their point of view, they're fighting against a higher power and striving for a better world. At least the Pack itself is... Van Kleiss's own motives may not be so pure... But this makes this song even better, because it's just the thing to rile up a group of people who are teetering on the edge. It's probably my fav song from the movie... Check it out!
DISNEY FAMILY THEME BONUS
-Six/Rex Father/Son: You'll Be In My Heart from Tarzan
Oh...my...gosh... Can a song GET any more perfect? I mean really! Every single lyric fits! "I will protect you from all around you..." "For one so small, you seem so strong" "Why can't they understand the way we feel? They just don't trust what they can't explain" Need I go on? Plus, the gentle and intimate tone of the song is just how I imagine Six and Rex's relationship... Truly beautiful!
-Holiday/Rex Mother/Son: We Are One from The Lion King 2
Ah...a Disney sequel that was actually good... There are so few... This song is one of my favorites. It's a song that says, no matter what the obstacles, you are never alone. Sounds like something that Holiday would be teaching Rex, no? It's a song of support, love, and family, everything Holiday and Rex's relationship is!
Coming up next: Karaoke songs! Stay tuned! ^_^
Stay tuned! ^_^
