The Topic of Soap Operas from a child's point view

This is my simple rant on soap operas

Doesn't anyone notice it seems like they NEVER, EVER END?! I mean, the protagonists never run out of problems until at least one of them die. But then just as they are at near-death, they either are revived through medical stuff or some random stranger happened to be at the scene then they save the good guy. The good guy might lose part of their memory and won't come back 'til some time later.

The antagonists, I admit, are crafty, but can be deranged. They always hold a mean grudge and it's VERY annoying to me

Then they run into more problems about romance, family, finances or all that other crappy drama stuff. Sometimes they're so stupid that they're unbelievable and just unreal.

And to top it off, I hate how they name the characters. They're way too long for me to remember and there are SO many characters that I can't keep track of who the heck they're talking about! I know they wanna sound dramatic and traditional with the names, but why can't there be ONE person there with a short name like...Bob. How come no is ever named "Bob" in soap operas or and live TV shows?

You know, sometimes the antagonists are REALLY possessive and insane about money. That's always kinda stupid to me...

And just as the bad guys ARE about to change, something puts them off track and they become even more deranged than before.

At least, that's usually how some of the Filipino teleseryes on TV are. There's this one show called "Mara Clara". They're currently showing a remake of it but the original one lasted 5 YEARS! Now THAT'S what I call nuts

The only soap opera that I liked was "May Bukas Pa" because the 7-year-old protagonist was cute, it taught numerous lessons, was constantly miscellaneous, but had their fair share of moments.

As for the others, depends...

Okay, I know I used minor language here, and if I need to edit it I will. But for now, this is the end of my unorganized rant...

I've never watched soap operas. I'd stop on one, go "meh", and change the channel. However seeing all the Soap Digest, ABC Soaps, and other soap opera magazines in the grocery store checkout lines make me go "jeez" at the amount of crazy problems the characters have.

Though the fact that stoic Six is voiced by a soap star amuses me to no end.

Huh...never knew that until now...

And one more thing I wanna rant about that involves soap operas. The emotions. They're so OA! They overreact to everything! Almost every small detail becomes the biggest problems in their lives. Too much drama to handle. I bet if one of them got a paper cut, they'd freak out and call 911 and say that they're dying of blood loss. Stupid naman noon!

And you're right, those things just go on and on and on~ There's this soap here on tv and it's been runnin' for over 10 years now..

I can't stand soap operas. My mom loves Days Of Our Lives, though. A couple minutes of sitting in front of the tv and I know EXACTLY what's going on lol.

I did watch a few recent eps though, cause Wally Kurth (voice of Six and Callan) came back again. Mom said he's been on and off the show for a few months now.... It kinda makes me nervous, I mean... he voices TWO characters for this show, one of which is a main character, and lately he's been back at the soap operas.

What does this mean for future GenRex eps? Either nothing or we could have another hiatus headed our way plus this one.

I hate the film and style of the soaps. And I watched the last episode of one soap opera while waiting for the news to come on because my sisters school was on it and the main character who's husband had died was about to leave the town she grew up in on a train when her husband who had died twenty seasons ago comes back saying they mixed up the bodies in the car crash and he got amnesia but he remembered everything days ago and came back for her.

I prefer it when soap operas aren't cheesy, never follow the same plotline or actually teach you something.

But sitcoms...yeah, that stuff's good! And funny! Not too much drama!

I like the old and funny Filipino sitcoms like "Bahay Mo Ba 'To?" and "Aalog-Alog".

"Bahay Mo Ba 'To?" literally means "Is This Your House?" and "Aalog-Alog" means "shaking"

They sound most.... INTERESTING!

Technically, they are interesting as long as you understand Tagalog and live in the Philippines. They're both about the occupants of a house that have problems with each other

"Bahay Mo Ba 'To?" is mostly about two elderly (yeah, elderly) siblings who fight about everything. Their parents can't decide who to leave their house with so they just used a wall to split it in half. But they still have problems with each other and their other neighbors

"Aalog-Alog" is pretty much similar to that. Two different families are living in a house that was affected so badly by an earthquake, when someone wasn't careful, the house would always rock back and forth. The main story is that the children of the two rivalled neighbors fall in love, but they can't keep it for long. But it's still really funny!

The first one kinda reminds me of the American Sitcom Golden Girls, about this group of old people who live together and each have very different personalities.

The ironic thing that's happening right now is that I'm currently watching Filipino soap operas in Singapore because I actually understand it, not like the ones in other channels. And it's me grandma watching and she doesn't want me to change the channel..along with my uncle and aunt, even though they're getting kinda tired of the shows themselves
