Okay so I was thinking- Do all Disney movies have single or no parents?
Snow White- Dead mother (did her father die too?) Cinderella- Dead mother then dead father Little Mermaid- dead mother Beauty and the Beast- Dead mother Aladin- Aladin: No parents, Jasmine- Dead mother Lion King- father dies Princess and the frog: dead father lilo and stitch: dead parents toy story: no father finding nemo: dead mother
I mean....? Does Disney have something against the traditional nuclear family or what? And does it seem that the mothers die a lot more?

Until the lion king it was all dead mothers and i was creeped out as a child. I think its an element of tragedy . . . that or a statement about divorce

Well, for the most part, they were mainly based off of old fairy tails, and in the old days it wasnt uncommon for a mother to die in childbirth, or the parents to die in some horrific accident. So the fairy tales mirrored that, and Disney kept with it because it let the story have some semblance of sense that would have been lost if there were suddenly a mother that would have probably protected the main character.

Yeah but still, can't we get ONE story with both parents? I'm not sure about Sleeping Beauty, I never actually saw that one. It would be nice.

Well that's comforting. I was afraid that the Disney Empire was out to irraticate the nuclear family thus creating the 'spoilem' era in which all single parents feel the needs to over compensate for their children- which would result in more merchandise being sold and more 'suprise' visits to disney word/land - whatever.
Of course I'm not serious but it is fun to over analyze these things ^.^

Mulan has both parents and her grandmother, so that's two movies at least (however, the male lead's father dies off screen during the course of the film sooo...)
Sorry. Watched that movie yesterday and remembered this topic, thought I'd add my two cents.

That's just the rules for disney....no parents. Especially a mother
Like, is Goofy the only married cast member? What happened to Max's mom?
For Pixar though, NO ONE starts out happy. Up, Toy Story (Andy's dad died in the Gulf War), Finding Nemo... I think th only exceptions are the Incredibles and Cars.

Dude Bambi still makes me cry. And I have a no-cry rule...
Yeah Pete totally had a wife. I think she was kinda hot actually now that I think about it...but she probably married Pete for his money.
