but he had a mother. who got shot. in front of him. To be fair, Bambi was adapted from the novel by Felix Salten. (read it, it's good). There was even a sequel by the same author, called Bambi's Children, split into 2 books when originally published. Disney, when they adapt a movie from a book, tend to try and keep to the story, but just to try and handle it as well as they can for the kids. Also, seeing as Bambi was released in 1942, these were the war years. Kids knew about death by then, it was still hard, but they didn't protect them, so in a way Bambi's mother's death was a lesson in how precious life is, that it must be enjoyed while it is there. *steps off soapbox sheepishly*

I hate it when Disney adapts an old story. Remember Tarzan? In the original, Jane marries Clayton against her will and Tarzan just let's them go off together.
(Btw, did I mention that they met when Tarzan raped Jane? Yeah.)

If it helps, in the original version of Sleeping Beauty, the prince didn't wake her up with a kiss... *under18s, cover your eyes and ears now* basically the text went something like "he woke her so vigorously that some months later, she gave birth to a pair of beautiful twin boys"....

I haven't read that version.
The versions I have are... I don't know. I don't remember what it had for Sleeping Beauty.
..
Oh yeah, it's the version where the whole castle was asleep for 100 years.
...
Hey Tessa, is that version the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy by A.N. Roquelaure (Anne Rice XD) ^^;; 'Cause that's the only way I could think how Beauty was awakened...
~~~
I'd love to see Disney take a shot with The Snow Queen. That's pretty much my favorite fairy tale by Andersen.
You know, the original Princess and the Frog ending didn't end with a kiss, either the frog got hit on the wall (ouch) or the frog's skin got burned (double ouch!)
the original version was said to be by Charles Perrault. There's a wikipedia article on sleeping beauty which seems quite good, exploring the origins and changes. The Disney version was apparently based both on Perrault's but also drew from Tchaikovsky's ballet. "Perrault transformed the tone of Basile's "Sole, Luna, e Talia". Beside differences in tone, the most notable differences in the plot is that the sleep did not stem from a curse, but was prophesied; that the king did not wake Talia from the sleep with a kiss, but raped her,[3] and when she gave birth to two children, one sucked on her finger, drawing out the piece of flax that had put her to sleep, which woke her; and that the woman who resented her and tried to eat her and her children was not the king's mother but his jealous wife. The mother-in-law's jealousy is less motivated, although common in fairy tales. There are earlier elements that contributed to the tale, in the medieval courtly romance Perceforest (published in 1528), in which a princess named Zellandine falls in love with a man named Troylus. Her father sends him to perform tasks to prove himself worthy of her, and while he is gone, Zellandine falls into an enchanted sleep. Troylus finds her and impregnates her in her sleep; when their child is born, he draws from her finger the flax that caused her sleep. She realizes from the ring he left her that the father was Troylus; he returns after his adventures to marry her." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeping_Beauty
Nah, The Snow Queen has been shelved again, last I checked. Looking around, it seems they were discouraged by the male audience being deterred from fairy tale movies (it's one of the reasons why it's Tangled, not Rapunzel, plus it's not all about Rapunzel anyway - Flynn is every bit as big of a character as Rapunzel, heh)
I haven't heard that but I can believe it...it's like the dawn of the living sequels *screams and runs away* What would happen in it? The prince shrinks? Happy the dwarf becomes a witch?
It's about the hunter and snow white. I think it focuses on the hunter. Either way it is going to warp the original story. I actually don't see the dwarves being in it
Anyone else here that they are doing another Snow White, and the bella chick is supposed to play snow white? Kristen Stewart as Snow White? BELLA AS SNOW WHITE?!?! This CANNOT happen! Snow White is weak, but likable. Bella is weak and as annoying as an insect that buzzes in your ear but can't be swatted!!!
So it's going to be a little warped up like Red Riding Hood was? |D;; Is this even made by Disney? You're going to have to mention whether this is Disney doing this...
