YES-ISH! I HAVE MANAGED TO POLLUTE THIS THREAD WITH POKEMON!! *shot* The Creators (Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina) were and are my favourites, and what I'd give for a Charizard, Dragonair, Flygon and Latias... :tears: I is sad. Dragonology is king, but I already had Wizardology and Monsterology. I have the mini 'Choose your own adventure' Dragonology books tho. I watched the WHOLE Digimon Spirit Warriors (or whatever, Agunimon/Kazemon/Lobomon spirit evolving etc) on YouTube! DIGIMON Forever united as one DIGIMON Somethingsomesomethingsomesome DIGIMON *shot* And mustn't forget my favourite 'Mon - Gallade, and Lapras, and Scizor, and Luxray, and Treecko, and Sceptile, and - WAIT. Sceptile is another Sixmon! And Crobat, and Pidgeot, and STARAPTOR FTW, and Typhlosion, and Aggron, and Meganium, and Sinnoh-in-general... *rattles on* XD

Dragon Pokemon are absolutely my favorite ones. Except for the fact they're weak to dragon and ice types, made trying to battle Pryce and catch Palkia and Giratina a pain. ><
Dragons are a very close second for my favorite mythological creatures (sorry, but I <3 my elves!), there's just so many stories about them all over the world that it's hard to not like them.

i agree with Aenrhien that dragon pokemon are the best, but then it's fire which are my next fave.
i like dragon stories, in Teen Titans the character raven has an episode where this evil dragon pretends to be some kind guy locked in one of her spell books and she releases him unfortuantely she is like heartbroken cos she thought the dragon was being nice to her but he just wanted to escape ;~; it made me sad.

I gotta add a new dragon book series to my list: Temeraire. It takes place during the Napoleonic War, except this version involves a division of aviators that ride dragon back. The main characters are Captain Laurance and his dragon partner, Temeraire. I highly recommend it. The first book is His Majesty's Dragon.

I also have a great fancy for dragons, but you always seem to get two types of dragons in stories; Bestial: The monsters. They can be intelligent, but they usually are vicious mindless animals that are either a threat to the greater society or used as mounts. The are beasts of burden and usually retain no higher inteligence than a dog or dolphin. Borderline monsters these animals are used for effect rather than plot development in a story. Human: These dragons are still dragons, but they are wise, also intelligent and usually communciate in some way with humans. They are a 'race' instead of a 'animals species' and can be antogonists or protagonists usually the latter. They can be key elements in a story and are almost always used as some grand moment or turning point. Almost always magical. Personally I prefer the one right in between, the one you don't see... like ever. The dragon with inteligence, but still retains its bestail nature. It can not speak, but understands what you're trying to so. I just never felt a species over 10/20 thousand years old would ever be able to communicate with us. Each animal has its own way of 'talking' I can study a lion for years and can try to do the body movements and maybe I will learn something in a few years. But I will never be able to speak 'lion'. For many reasons. I don't have the vocal chords, I don't have the right body or strength in lungs and finally there are no 'words' on a lion's language. They go on feeling and emotion. Magical dragons bore me, I prefer nitty gritty dragons with no magical powers, just fire breath. Or wood dragons that live in the forest and are made of wood and can listen to the trees, but that's it. Not even the last bit. I just like the earthiness. The grittiness that make them so much more real. Ice dragons can be pretty cool (no pun intended ) but they usually give me the idea of mystical and I like the harshness and hardness of a character. it sounds weird I know, but magic (recently) started to spoil fantasy novels for me. They use it as an excuse for everything (to make the hero more interesting, to give tension to the story, to move the plot a long) Most fantasy novelists today give me the idea that they don't really care before writing :\ And recently I've discovered that when the hero does use magic it's usually very predictable. !) He's the chosen one. 2) He sucks at it. 3) He miraculiously learn he has 'the ability' 4) He hates it. (and later learns to love it) 5) It's a burden. On and on it goes, the list is very predictable. But to get o my point. I love dragons, it's the reason I love dinosaurs, one of my favourites being Carnotaurus. But I want dragons to be something real, not mystical, not magical, but a living animal that popps and throws-up and gets sick. That eats the car and does naughty things. I want them to be real, not figments of imagination. Unfortunately most of the appeal (to most lovers of dragons) lie in their magic.

I like the dragons from the legends, especially the Eastern Ones. Those dragons are viewed as Gods, and I love the idea of having powerful mystic creatures watching over us. I agree with you about the whole magic thing. Some writers have no originality when it comes to that.

You know, Mac, I think you'd enjoy Pern. There's a very scientific basis for these dragons and their abilities. Also...OMG! I just found this on Youtube! I've been looking for this for YEARS! Anyone see Merlin and the Dragons? www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSPBU-twyhcMy only pet peeve here is that they got the story wrong: The red dragon kills the white dragon. I don't know why that was changed... Ah well. It's still awesome!
