Hey guys, I've been kinda obsessing about this game lately, we have the official game guide but not the game and I'm becoming desperate to play it. I mean, I've done research on this. Lots of it, like approx. 20+ bookmarks in my toolbar amounts. So, has anyone around here played it, and if so what is it like, did you enjoy it?

So much yes. Oblivion is one of those games that lets you do whatever you want, including just not doing the main quest if you don't feel like it, and you keep the same level of story detail whether you do the main quest or not. I still enjoy it. ^_^ Also, if you ever get around to getting it, spend the extra cash and get the Shivering Isles expansion too. Sheoggorath is hilarious.

Oh my gosh, that game!! I literally played that game into the ground. I can't even tell you the ridiculous number of hours I logged on it. Oblivion is hands down one of my all time favorites. The expansions are definitely worth getting. There is a new Elder Scrolls installment coming out this November that I'm geeked over, so you know I'll be buying that:-)

Imagine a really good Dungeons and Dragons game but picture it just by yourself going around and doing whatever you feel like doing. Yeah. It's that much fun. I've had to impose a ban on myself, preventing me from playing on weekdays. Otherwise, I start when I get home and go to bed at four the next day.

I've played it and finished it along with Shivering Isles (kudo's to Aenrhien for mentioning that, I loved that guy ) It's a really good game, great graphics, you can ride horse (no horseback comabt though ) but generally a solid game with awesome side quests and I fell in love with all the characters I met. A vibrant world that just seems to come a live the more you play. In depth and well thought out with lore and laws and it's just awesomeness in a plastic container! I had two concerns though; The first was the leveling. If you level all the creatures level with you and it sometimes felt I never got stronger, this was a complaint from many players. But if you can over look it, then it shouldn't bother you too much. But it does seem to get a lot worse as the story progresses. My second concern was the repetitive game-play. At one point the quests just felt very similiar. Someone complains/cries/begs for something or about someone and you end up killing a bunch of monsters. Apart from that it was still a great game to play and I haven't regretted buying it either. I played over a hundred hours and I still hadn't touched the main quest. So there is a lot to do in Oblivion. Hope you get to play it soon, it's an experience in itself.

Oh yes, the lore. If there's one thing I have to say that comes to mind every time I think of The Elder Scrolls as a series, it's just how detailed the lore is on everything, not just the stuff that applies to the main quest. For example, the Dark Brotherhood quest line. Not only do you learn things that are relevant to the quests for the faction, but you learn the actual history of the faction through the quests, dialogue with the relevant NPCs and books that can be found throughout the world or bought from book stores. Now take into account that every faction is like this, every aspect of the world is explained through dialogue or books you can find or buy.
Love this game. So much.

Plus all the guild stuff is awesome. Faux social interaction at it's best. Of course, I've robbed the Mage's Guild multiple times. What? I'm a mage in the guild! It's practically mine already!

@macgaulyver Skyrim skyrim skyrim skyrim DRAGONS skyrim skyrim! Although I probably won't play Skyrim until I've gotten good and bored with Oblivion, but still, Skyrim! Aenrhien Hmmm, I might get some expansions if they sound good enough, but apparently Oblivion has a really good modding community, so if I'm still strapped for cash (like I always am) I'll probably try playing around with mods and stuff first. Also, researching the sheer amount of things to do in this game makes me feel really geeky, because I'll be all "OMG magic, OMG houses, OMG huge open world, OMG books, OMG modding, OMG sneak, OMFG ALCHEMYYYYYYY HECK YEEEEEAAAAAAAH!!! *nerdgasms*"
