I imagine just giving him Nanites would be a victory in Van Kleiss' eyes, but making him an EVO would be a nice perk. As for which of them he was aiming for, I'm leaning towards EVO myself, because he ran off almost immediately after Van Kleiss stuck him (which is what leads me to believe that on top of getting Nanites, he was going to turn EVO too). Knight may be a jerk that considers everyone - including himself in my little head-canon - expendable, but I can't imagine he'd stick around and let himself become a pawn of the enemy if his retreating would give the rest of them a chance to end the battle in their favor. Then they could just hunt him down, cure him and he gets to go back on the front lines.

...or gets himself killed trying to be Bleached again, but I like the idea of Knight getting back on the front lines myself.
