So I come in here in the need to lay out my general feel about the cross over and what I read is;
Perverts, Nudity, fluffyness, Noex, Cousin kissin'....
...
am I in the right topic?
*looks at title screen*
I'm gonna go with... maybe -_- I once saw a turky run past, so anything is possible in this forum.
Well lame joke out of the way here is my own take on the err... crossover fiesta.
It was dissapointing.
Maybe the hype was too big, maybe I expected more, however it stands I found myself 'left hanging' at the end. Six's 'coma' was a little forced for me it didn't really build up to anything. I kept getting the idea it was a spur of the moment thing;
"Oh crap we got two heroes, Six is kinda ruining the whole thing. We need the fan girls to look at the dorky alien and the clueless machine"
"Bugger, you're right! Let's blow him up in the same manner we've done in some other episode and put him in a coma,"
"Great idea! It will spur some meaningless tears from he audience and make us look really cool for doing it"
*nerdy high five*(Again lame joke aside) If they wanted to make an emotional scene I would have rather called upon 'A family holiday' where rex makes Six promise to never do something like that again. It would have been a very interesting conversation between rex and six where he is yelling at his mentor for doing something he swore never to do again and Six not understanding because he couldn't remember making that promise.
Rex's emotional fight between missing his mentor and his anger for feeling betrayed would have felt a lot more real for me. At the same time I do understand why they couldn't do this, it just wouldn't have worked in such a 'short' cartoon.
Still it would have been nice.
Their reunion at the end also felt a little lack luster for me. Again more intensity would have been wonderful.
Now we get to the nitty gritty Ben and Rex. Why they did the jacket gag I don't know, I didn't find it funny and it again felt forced. The'r battles were long, too long in some cases and I know there was one point where I kinda wished they'd just get it over with and get on with the story. But they wanted to have more action and they reeeely wanted to show off as many of Ben's aliens as possible.
"Rath the alien kicks butt in both universes! Buy yours today!"The fnal battle was the worst. It had no plan, they weere just trying to pound sense into a being they had proved half an hour they couldn't do in any case. The combination with Upgrade and Rex was pretty cool, but wasn't worth the dramatic build up to that point in the story.
Cesar was suddenly on the scene at the end which threw me a little. If he had been established in the battle I think it would have been that bit greater. He was introduced earlier in the story and that's fine, but it still would have been cooler if they had kept strong communication with him. I know, I know I can see it a mile away they didn't want to fall into old habits with tired old plots. But they went in such a far other direction that it's kinda hard to miss what they were trying to achieve. And tired old plots are tired and old for a reason; they work.
Back to Cesar. I honestly didn't get the whole "I was aiming for that evil red flying dude, really" part right after ben destroys his 'gun'. He was aiming straight at Rex and when he shows them where Alpha is, he's in a completely different direction.
How does this make sense? It was a horrible plot twist to get the gun destroyed without making it interesting. Again dissapointment.
I know Cesar is smart and everything, but Holiday is not stupid by any standard... so why couldn't she study the material? Again it was just another sad attempt to bring in Cesar instead of Holiday and to get him to tell the story about Alpha.
Alpha I loved and enjoyed to the bitter core. He was cool, I loved his voice and thought he made a very intimidating impression of a villian. I am very happy they didn't destroy him
can't wait to see him kick some more butt!
I know I'm probably being a little harsh, but it was my first take on it and it was a big let down for me. I did enjoy ben's wise cracks though, they were hysterical.
In the end I think the problem with crossoevers is that there is this eternal struggle with which hero will be the real hero. In this crossover they did succeed in making both characters the hero, while still holding true to the universe. That being said it wasn't what I was expecting and I guess my own mental build up to this episode was its undoing for me.
