Okay, this is something that has been on my mind for quite some time.
Now, you guys probably know that I am a big fan of Brex.
Random group of people: NO FREAKING DUH!!!!!
...Okay, you all know I love Brex... But, if I'm gonna be completely honest with myself, I don't think we're gonna see Rex end up with anyone. At least, not in the way that Kevin and Gwen got together or the way that Holiday and Six WILL get together.
In the beginning, Circe seemed to be the obvious love interest. We had a really good Romeo/Juliet concept going on and the potential for some great romantic plot. (That's right, people. I was a fan of Circex! I love Circe! She's freaking awesome!)
Then, we didn't see much of Circe...ever. She appeared once every few episodes and it came to a point where I really couldn't see anything developing. And, surely enough, it didn't. She joined the Hong Kong gang and is probably going to end up with Sqwydd.
We also have seen Annie, who has gone on a few dates with Rex. Unlike Circe, I never saw anything developing. They seemed to be good friends who double-dated with Noah and Claire. Their relationship is pretty casual and I haven't seen any signs of romance between them.
Beverly...*holds back Mary-Sue rant* Well...does anyone know where she is? Anyone? I think she has officially been put on the bus. She went on one date with Rex and...that's it. If she was going to be a real love interest, we would have seen more of her. She was nothing more than a plot device to add depth to Holiday's character, give us some Holix, and cure Rex's crush on Holiday. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's my view.
Cricket...is gonna be with Tuck. She had a crush on Rex in the past, but it seems as if she's over it now. So, it's not worth mentioning.
It would have been interesting to see something develop with Kenwyn, but, again, she has only been in two episodes. And, again, I didn't get a "potential romance" vibe. They just seem to be colleagues and friends.
Of course, I HAVE to mention Breach! Looking at this as an avid reader/author/viewer of various TV series and NOT as a biased Brex fan, I honestly think she has the best shot at being Rex's love interest if he's going to have one. There is real depth to their relationship and she hasn't been written off. We KNOW she's gonna be back, just as we KNOW VK is gonna be back. She still has plot to offer, so she still has an opportunity. But...to be brutally honest, MOA is not likely to drive this twisted, beautiful romance all the way home. It's sad but MOA has already copped out of so many opportunities and I fully expect them to wimp out here. (See my GR Cop-Out Thread in the Spoilers section)
And, of course, there are the One-Episode-Wonders. Beverly was one of them. There was also Valentina, that Goggle girl, the various nameless girls Rex has flirted with, etc.
The fact that there have been SO MANY girls shown with Rex throughout the series convinces me that he's not likely to settle down with any single individual by the end. The sheer quantity of relationships shown combined with the lack of screentime prevents a real and believable romance from coming to light.
In a way, I'm kinda relieved that Rex isn't going to be a romantic character. It's similar to Harry Potter in that aspect: I was waiting for Ron and Hermione to get together. I didn't care about Cho and, though I initially liked Ginny/Harry, it didn't have a real impact on me and it held a backseat to everything else. It's also like Ben 10: I FREAKING HATE JULIE! Even when I liked her, she wasn't important. Kevin and Gwen were. It's nice that MOA knows that Holix is the big romance and that he's keeping the focus where it should be.
The stubborn, Brex-loving side of me will keep hoping, but my logical side has already drawn this conclusion. But hey! This means we can draw our own conclusions after the series is over and put Rex with whoever we want! Ya'll know who I'M gonna put him with. ^_^
