You get your night vision because a mutant cat bit you and the DNA in your eyes got corrupted and became half-cat, giving you night vision. However, you continue to mutate until you are a rabid, mindless, quadrupedal feline monster that everyone fears and though people try to pretend it's you, they can't and you are forever doomed to be lonely, mindless, rabid and bloodthirsty. (Don't worry Princess, just my sci-fi mind going overboard xD)
